The hero in this book is Crystal. She displays courage by doing a couple of things. When she first moves into the house (temporarily) with her aunt she sees something on the third floor. when she goes there she fins a girl in the closet. She is actually willing to hide the girl. Her aunt may find out but she is actually willing to help someone who she doesn't even really know and hide them. That is pretty brave because if her aunt fins out that someone is living there, there could be some consequences.
Another brave thing she does is lie to her aunt. She is kind of ling to her because she wants her to keep the house. if they keep the house then she can stay there. she is kind of taking a liking to the house. Her Grandfather used to live there after all. This is pretty self-Sacrificing. Her aunt really wants to try and sell this house but Crystal doesn't want her to. She telling her that things are nice and that she shouldn't sell it. That is also kind of self sacrificing because she is willing to do that just to keep the house from being sold.
