The City Of Ember: The Shadow

     In The City Of Ember the Mayor of the city was like the shadow in this book. First off people think that he is good. But later a different side of him shows. The people of the city have hope in the mayor. He claims that he can get the city back in shape. But later on in the book we find out that the mayor isnt really doing anything. People are protesting "Where are the answers? We want answers Mayor Cole!" But the truth is...there are no answers.

     So the reason why I think the mayor is the shadow is because in one point in the book Lina and Doon find that the Mayor is stealing. He is also being greedy and slefish. This is kind of the dark side to human kind because there are people out there that are like this. They steal and they are greedy and the isn't fair to all of us. Just like it wasn't fair to all the people in Ember. 

The Mayor in this book represents a lot of things because of what he did. He could be the shadow in the book but he could also be part of a hidden message in the book. The Mayor, by doing what he did, makes a lot of differences in the book. I think he is one of the most important characters in the book even though he isn't one of the main characters.
